"The 31 Scariest Moments in Sports History" was on line on sacbee.com, the e-version of the Sacramento Bee. It was somehow related to Halloween, but as the article points out, scary stuff happens all year round in sports.
Top of the list was Joe Theisman's leg getting broken for the whole nation to see -- again and again -- and there were brawls and beanings, one biting, and a political killing (Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympics).
Thanks to morbid curiousity, I read the whole thing. By the time I got to #31, I was starting to think I should never buy a ticket to another game of any sort. I wasn't tricked into reading it, but it was definitely not a treat!
